The Public Beta is rolling, and your feedback has been incredible! We've been hard at work this month, and version 0.4.0 is a direct result of your requests. This update is all about personalization, expanding your library, and major polish to make the core experience feel more solid than ever.
🎨 Make It Yours: Per-Profile Colors
Your profile is your space, and now it can look the part. We've added a new color picker in your profile settings, letting you change the theme for your background, panels, and highlights.
Each profile on your device can have its own unique color, and the background even transitions smoothly when you switch between them.
🎬 A Classic Console Startup
To make GameStacker feel even more like a real console, you can now add a custom startup video! The app will play your selected video (or a random one) while your library loads in the background, reducing perceived load time and getting you into the action with style.
You can add your own video files to the assets/videos directory and manage this feature in the settings. Want that perfect retro vibe? Try finding a classic boot-up intro from a console like the GameCube or PlayStation!
📦 Welcome, LaunchBox!
Our list of integrations is growing! GameStacker will now automatically detect and import your games from LaunchBox, bringing another one of your favorite libraries into our single, unified interface. This joins our existing support for Steam and RetroBat, with more on the way!
Please note: For this beta version, the integration requires LaunchBox to be installed in its default location (your home folder/LaunchBox).
🚀 Boot Straight to Your Games
For the ultimate handheld or HTPC setup, you can now set GameStacker to launch automatically when you log in to your device. Just toggle the option in the settings, and you'll boot straight into your library every time.
⚙️ Major Fixes & Polish
This update is packed with QoL improvements and critical fixes based on your beta feedback.
- Major Guide & Dialog Fixes: We've completely reworked how dialogs and focus are handled. That annoying bug where the Guide would lose focus or closing one window would accidentally close another? Gone. Pressing the Guide button now works reliably, even over other dialogs. Plus, you can now open the Guide from your keyboard using the 'Home' key!
- Tighter Controller Input: Controller input feels much more responsive. We fixed issues where an analog stick flick could register twice, prevented double-inputs from controllers like the DualSense, and resolved background input from Nintendo Pro controllers.
- Large Library Stability: For you data hoarders, we fixed a major bug that could cause very large libraries (9,000+ games) to get stuck loading.
- Polish, Polish, Polish: We've also added a ton of small polish:
- The black CMD window that would sometimes flash when closing a game is now hidden.
- We fixed an issue where some Steam games were missing their covers or backgrounds.
- The achievements page has been replaced with a cleaner, more consistent dialog.
- The missing profile and achievements settings are now accessible from the Guide.
